It has been 23 years since its establishment, Children’s Hearing Foundation has helped more than 4,000 children with hearing loss learn to listen and speak by providing professional Auditory-Verbal intervention sessions. The press conference of republishing the book The Sound of Love was held this year, many guests, children with hearing loss and their families came together to celebrate.
“This is the one last thing daddy can do for you!” It has been 23 years since its establishment, Children’s Hearing Foundation has helped more than 4,000 children with hearing loss learn to listen and speak by providing professional Auditory-Verbal intervention sessions. The press conference of republishing the book The Sound of Love was held this year, many children with hearing loss and their families came together in memory of CHF’s late founder Joanna. Among all the families, Li-Meng’s father donated digital otoscope that he invented to CHF before passing away; hoping Li-Meng will grow up with his love.
Li-Meng was diagnosed with hearing loss when he was 2 months and came to CHF when he was 11 months. Because Li-Meng’s father was a bio-medical engineer, he was motivated to invent digital otoscope to help his son and other children with hearing loss.
Li-Meng’s mother recalls, Li-Meng’s father was having back pain, losing weight seriously and having bad appetite, everyone thought it was the stress that caused all the symptoms. Li-Meng’s father didn’t pay much attention on his health and was too busy to go to the doctor. Until one day, Li-Meng’s father was sent to the hospital and diagnosed with cancer.
It was only 7 months from Li-Meng’s father being diagnosed of cancer to his death. During the time, he followed the status of the digital otoscope very closely and kept in touch with his colleagues. He asked his wife and colleagues to donate the digital otoscope to CHF, which was his last wish. Li-Meng’s father was only 37 years old when he passed away, hard for everyone to accept it.
After Li-Meng’s father passed away, Li-Meng’s mother kept his promise and donated the digital otoscope to CHF. Not only Li-Meng but all the children in CHF benefit from the digital otoscope. Li-Meng is now taking care by his mother and grandparents, and now he has become a healthy and talkative child.
Li-Meng used to love hanging out with his father. Although he is still too little to understand the meaning of death, but Li-Meng knows that his father is in the heaven looking after him. He will grow up with courage and carry the “gift” his father left him.
